“競技用エンデューロマシンTT500をベースに開発した、公道走行可能なビッグシングル・トレールモデル。オフロード車初の前傾倒立型リアサスペンションなど画期的な試みが随所に盛り込まれ、１９７９年から始まったパリ・ダカールラリーでも、初期の定番マシンとして活躍。シリル・スブー選手が第１回、第２回大会優勝を果たした。”

This “big single” trail model was outfitted to be street-legal and it was developed with the TT500 endurance competition machine as its base model. It incorporated epoch-making innovations in all areas, including – in a first for off-road vehicles – a forward inclined upside-down rear suspension. It became the machine used by many teams in the early years of the Paris-Dakar Rally. Yamaha also prepared a factory machine based on it that Cyril Neveu won the first two Dakar rallies on.
