“ヤマハの二輪として初めての“リッターバイク（排気量1,000cc以上のエンジンを搭載したモデル）”　時代の到来を告げたモデル（日本国内は未発売）。DOHC・並列4気筒・1,100ccエンジンの圧倒的なパワーが欧米のモーターサイクルファンを魅了した。後輪の駆動にはシャフトドライブを採用し、コンチネンタルハンドルにオイルクーラーを装備したヨーロッパ仕様とアップハンドルのアメリカ仕様の2タイプがあった。”

This model ushered in the over-1,000c era for Yamaha motorcycles (it was not sold in Japan). The rear wheel was shaft-driven and the DOHC in-line 4-cylinder 1,100cc engine’s awesome power created new excitement among European and American motorcycle enthusiasts. The European-market version had continental handlebars and an oil cooler while the American-market version came with up-slanted handlebars.
