Citroen 5CV Type C3
Setting his sights on becoming the “Henry Ford of France,” André Citroën adopted the mass-production approach from the outset to produce cars for the general public. In 1922, he released the Citroën Type C, commonly known as the 5CV, which became an instant success by providing the structure and mechanisms of a larger car in a scaled-down body. Because of its unique boat-tail design, the 5CV was affectionately called the “cicada” in Japan. The 5CV also brought forth a derivative called the 3C in 1923, which was a practical 3-seater with an extended wheelbase. The continued popularity of the 5CV made it the earliest French car for the masses.
