“1938年のキャデラック60スペシャルは、実用性を考慮して流線型を応用した最初のモデルであろう。ランニングボードのない、低く幅広のスタイルは力強く、プレステージを演出するにふさわしいものだし、なによりトランクルームを設けたことに注目したい。当時、このスタイルはトヨタの大型B型やBC型にも採り入れられたように、現代の3ボックスセダンの基本形がこの時できあがったのである。また、60スペシャルはコラムシフト方式を採用したことでも有名であった。”

Cadillac Series 60 Special
The 1938 Cadillac 60 Special is arguably the first car that adopted a streamlined styling for practical reasons. The wide and low-slung body, unencumbered by running boards, gave an air of power and prestige. The addition of a rear luggage space was of particular significance, as it foreshadowed the 3-box styling of today’s sedans. In fact, Toyota was quick to adopt this styling for its large Model B and BC sedans at the time. The 60 Special was also known for introducing the steering column gearshift.
