Cadillac Series 452A
In 1930, Cadillac introduced the world’s first car equipped with a V16 engine. The engine, called the Series 452 for its 7.4-liter (or 452 cubic inch) displacement, was equipped with an OHV system with hydraulic tappets, and could produce 165 hp to effortlessly thrust the car’s heavy and luxurious frame forward. Although annual production was limited to 500 units or so, the V16 model successfully embodied speed, power, and beauty, establishing Cadillac as the top U.S. luxury car manufacturer.
