“従来の「跨って乗る」という常識を覆し、「ステップスルー」というスタイルを定着させた50ccコミューターモデル。エンジンや駆動系を外装でカバーして衣類の汚れなどの心配を減らし、清潔感や親しみやすさを感じさせるデザイン、扱いやすい自動遠心クラッチ・手動リアブレーキなど、斬新なアイデアを数多く採用。「やさしいから好きです。」のキャッチフレーズによるキャンペーンも話題を呼び、女性をはじめとする新たなユーザー層と「ソフトバイク」という新たな市場を創り出した。”

This model overturned the traditional “leg-over mounting” approach, and made the “step through” scooter style a permanent feature of 50cc commuter models. It incorporated many innovative ideas, including a design that fully covered the engine and drive train area to give a clean, approachable image and virtually remove the fear of getting one’s clothes dirty, a rider-friendly automatic centrifugal clutch and hand-operated rear brakes. The Passol attracted many new customers—especially women—and created a new market for what came to be known as “soft bikes.”
