“トヨタスポーツ800は、1962年のモーターショーで発表されたプロトタイプであるパブリカスポーツを祖として、1965年4月に登場。空気力学を重視した機能的なスタイルをそのままに、パブリ力のコンポーネンツを用いてコストダウンを考えた大衆のためのスポーツカーであった。価格は59.5万円。デタッチャブルトップの開放感と、わずか790ccの空冷水平対向2気筒から得られる、155km/hの最高速度はドライブの楽しさを一般的なものにしたのである。”

Toyota Sports 800 Model UP15
The Toyota Sports 800 released in April 1965 was based on the Publica Sports, a prototype exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1962. Designed as a sports car for the masses, the Toyota Sports 800 retained the prototype’s aerodynamic and function-oriented styling but was modestly priced at ¥595,000, thanks to the use of existing Publica components. With its detachable top and a small but powerful 790 cc engine (horizontally opposed, air-cooled, 2-cylinder) with a top speed of 155 km/h, the car made the joy of driving accessible to all.
