53年式.シボレー コルベッ ト（U.S.A/GM）

　“第2次世界大戦後アメリカでブームとなった、ヨーロッパ製スポーツカーに対抗するため、GMが投入したアメリカ最初の量産スポーツカー。新設計の6気筒エンジンを搭載した2シーターボディはFRP（繊維強化プラスティック）が使われている。スタイルは本格的なロードスターになっているが動力性能はスポーツカーとしては不十分で雰囲気を楽しむクルマだった。”

Stimulated by the fad for European-made sports cars that arose in the U.S. after WWII, GM introduced the first American-made production sports car in 1953. The Chevrolet Corvette featured a newly designed 6-cylinder engine and a fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) 2-seater body. Although its driving performance was not exactly up to the standards of a sports car, it certainly had the look and feel of a full-fledged roadster.
